UN General Assembly Special Session and renewed commitments on drugs
The 2016 UNGASS permitted a shift in the approaches to drug policy, towards an increased focus on human rights, and a new commitment to harmonize drug-related laws with the global guidelines for public policy adopted by the UN one year earlier: the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ministerial Commission on Narcotic Drugs pivotal for drug policies
In 2019, the United Nations meet at the Ministerial Segment of the COmmission on Narcotic Drugs to agree on a new joint programme of work on drugs for the next decade. This event is designed in this context, as a dialogue between Government authorities and civil societies.
Target date of the Sustainable Development Agenda
Drug policies, with Cannabis as a leading example, must be fully aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Goals, and respectful of Human Rights and dignity. The Berlin Declaration and the report Cannabis & Sustainable Development offer pathways of reflexion in that direction.
See you soon at the Mozart Room, United Nations, Vienna.
